​Cosplay is a central part of the Tokyo, OK experience and can be seen throughout the event, from the show floor and community spaces to organized cosplay programming.
At its core, cosplay is a form of creative expression where attendees create and wear costumes inspired by characters, themes, or original designs. Cosplayers participate in many different ways, including casual cosplay worn throughout the event, group and themed cosplays, photo meetups, and organized contests.
Cosplay at Tokyo, OK is open to all experience levels. Whether you are wearing your first costume or presenting a long-term build, cosplay is welcomed as part of the shared fan experience.

What Is Cosplay?
Cosplay (short for “costume play”) involves creating and wearing costumes inspired by anime, manga, games, film, television, comics, original characters, or other creative sources.
Cosplayers may focus on different aspects of the craft, including sewing, armor building, prop construction, makeup, styling, or performance. Some cosplayers emphasize craftsmanship, others creativity, comfort, humor, or interpretation. There is no single approach to cosplay, and all styles are valid within event guidelines.

Cosplay Throughout the Event
Cosplay is welcome across the event space and is not limited to contests or scheduled programming. Many cosplayers participate informally by:

Wearing cosplay while attending panels, shopping, or socializing

Participating in group cosplays or fandom meetups

Taking part in photo sessions or spontaneous interactions

All cosplayers are expected to follow event safety rules, prop policies, and conduct standards while on-site.
Cosplay Contests at Tokyo, OK
Tokyo, OK hosts multiple cosplay contests, each with its own focus, structure, and participation requirements. These contests are independent from one another and are designed to highlight different aspects of cosplay, such as craftsmanship, presentation, performance, or prop work.

Cosplay is not consent. All attendees are expected to respect personal boundaries, ask permission before taking photos, and follow Tokyo, OK’s Code of Conduct.
